3.0 Duratec Performance Options

Modding is a sickness I can't seem to get a way from. Now that my blown modular bird is gone I started thinking about what it would take to make a modern interpretation of a SVT Taurus (in my case Five Hundred) Any advice on what performance options might be good for a potential sleeper with a 3.0 Duratec? I know KB makes a head unit that will fit but I need to make some measurements under hood. Also before I get too far into researching this do you or any Ford powertrain guys you know have any idea what kind of HP or torque the CVT AWD trans Ford uses can handle? If nothing else I'm sure Ford left some power on the table a good tune can find. I'm sure I will be getting a PM from Mike or BigScott anytime now Smile )

Tim

Yes, there is plenty of room for improvement with the Five Hundred but not one with the CVT. Your best bet is to sell it and buy the same car with a 6 speed auto and you will have a good platform to start with. Hope this helps!

That's kind of what I was afraid of. I actually had a 6 speed prior to this one but I loaned it to my father in law and he ran off Buford Dam Rd and rolled 3 times. Is the issue that the trans can't take the power or just that it isn't very good at transmitting it to the ground? Now if they only made a 6 speed manual with AWD we might have some real potential

Properly prepped the 4R is a great trans. There are plenty of people here that can detail what you should do to firm it up.
