difference between STD and SAE?

What is difference between the 2 on a dyno? I know STD shows the larger number, but other than that what are the differences?

RE: difference between STD and SAE?

They are nothing more than correction factors. SAE J1349 was created to make all hp/tq readings from the automotive manufacturers equal. This way a vehicle manufactured in Japan would have the hp/tq measured the same as a vehicle manufactured here in the states. STD correction just uses a different formula to correct for Altitude, Humidity, and air density than SAE, hence that high numbers.

Funny.... when I saw "STD" in the title, I thought about something completely different, and wondered if the thread was misplaced and belonged in the "Tranmission" Forum.

RE: difference between STD and SAE?

Which is the one to go by I see a lot of people going by STD. I have always thought my car had low numbers (I was going by my SAE numbers). But now I see that if I go by STD numbers.....my car rocks. Aric is that man!
