F150 5.4 3valve tuning question

Hey guys I'm trying to point a friend in the right direction. He has been experiencing a 1200 RPM hesitation and the dealer has been unable to resolve it. Since the truck is drive by wire I'm assuming a tune might help with this throttle response issue plus he would like to know if there is any room to improve mileage with tune. I've been out of the loop for a while, JW did my last tune 4 years ago so I haven't kept up with current SCT tech or costs. Can you enlighten me so I can point him in the right direction? He has also been experiencing a vibration between 45-55 that goes away after acelerating through it. It reminds me of driveshaft whip but I don't know if the F150's are prone to that or not. ANy info you guys can provide would be apreciated

Tim

Aric would be the person to speak to about this. Is the truck stock or modified?

RE: F150 5.4 3valve tuning question

it's an 04 crew cab with 40K on the clock. The dealer has tired everything they can think of with regards to the vibration replaced the pinion twice replaced the shaft shimmed the transfer case. I don't think have really done very good diagnosing either issue they just threw parts at it until the warantee was up then they refused to help unless he paid even though it was an exisitng problem

OK, As far as the vibrations on that year model...he bought that with the truck. Good luck fixing it. When I was still working at the dealer, we must have had 10-15 RAV's (Ford buy backs) with problems like that, hell my granddad's truck does it.

The issues with throttle response can be help significantly with at "toon". The best thing to do is have him or her go to the dealer and have them update it with the latest calibration, then tune off of that one.

Hope this helps alittle.

Anyone I know??

I'm thinkin' Aric can load a chip and send it, ... but if he needs a dyno, my dyno guy in Stuart is SCT capable, so Aric might be able to do it remotely .. Your guy comes up to the dyno ... and my guy and Aric communicate via e-mail. I can try to work a price out with my guy for dyno time and just uploading the tune that Aric sends him.

Hi Mike,

Good to see you pop in. I don't know if you ever met my friend Dan or not. He lives down in Ft Lauderdale. He's a trumpet player and we played in several bands together when I lived down there.

RE: F150 5.4 3valve tuning question

I dont need a dyno for this. However, I do need the tear tag code or pcm strategy off the truck. I can do a "mail" toon for this.
